High-Cycle Fatigue Life and Strength Prediction for Medium-Carbon Bainitic Steels

چکیده

High-cycle fatigue (HCF) behaviors of medium-carbon bainitic steels with various inclusion sizes and microstructural features were studied using the rotating–bending test. Here, different melting processes treated by three heat treatment routes incorporating bainite formation, namely bainite-based quenching plus partitioning (BQ&P), austempering (BAT) “disturbed austempering, DBAT”. The interior inclusion-induced crack initiation (IICI) noninclusion-induced (NIICI) modes found after failure. fracture surface IICI is characterized a “fish-eye” surrounding “fine granular area, FGA” in vicinity an inclusion. In contrast, microfacet, instead inclusion, at center FGA for NIICI surface. predications strength life performed on two based analysis. results showed that majority consumed within both failure modes. NIICI-fatigued samples can be conveniently predicted via parameters hardness sample size microfacet.

High-Strength Bainitic Steels

With careful design, mixed microstructures consisting of fine plates of upper bainitic ferrite separated by thin films of stable retained austenite have exhibited impressive combinations of strength and toughness in highsilicon bainitic steels. The silicon suppresses the precipitation of brittle cementite leading to an improvement in toughness. The essential principles governing the optimisatio...

Multiaxial high-cycle fatigue criterion and life prediction for metals

A new high-cycle fatigue criterion based on the critical plane approach is proposed in this paper. Unlike most of the other multiaxial fatigue criteria based on the critical plane approach, the critical plane is directly correlated with the fatigue fracture plane. The proposed criterion has a wide range of applicability from very ductile metals to extremely brittle metals. Mean stress effect is...

Rolling Contact Fatigue Performances of Carburized and High-C Nanostructured Bainitic Steels

In the present work, the nanostructured bainitic microstructures were obtained at the surfaces of a carburized steel and a high-C steel. The rolling contact fatigue (RCF) performances of the two alloy steels with the same volume fraction of undissolved carbide were studied under lubrication. Results show that the RCF life of the carburized nanostructured bainitic steel is superior to that of th...

Strength gradient enhances fatigue resistance of steels

Steels are heavily used in infrastructure and the transportation industry, and enhancing their fatigue resistance is a major challenge in materials engineering. In this study, by introducing a gradient microstructure into 304 austenitic steel, which is one of the most widely used types of stainless steel, we show that a strength gradient substantially enhances the fatigue life of the material. ...
